Gender
Identity
Gender identity is how people see themselves, whether
masculine, feminine, or somewhere in-between. Gender identity disorder
is a conflict between a person's physical or apparent gender (sex)
and that person's self-identification. For instance, a person whose apparent gender is male may actually feel and act like a female. This is distinct
from homosexuality. Gays and lesbians nearly always identify with their
apparent gender.
If you or someone you know is struggling to deal
with gender identity issues, the Counseling Center can help.
