Separation & Divorce for Kids

Many children go through their parents’ divorce with relatively few problems or permanent negative effects. However, for other children, the effects of divorce can be traumatic and long-lived. Changes in a child’s living arrangements, time with parents, or ongoing parental conflict are difficult for any child to deal with. Twenty to twenty-five percent of the children whose parents divorce suffer significant adjustment problems as teenagers. The negative impact often persists into adulthood, resulting in nearly twice the normal prevalence of mental health problems and impaired educational attainment, socioeconomic and family well-being.

If your child is struggling to deal with your separation or divorce, the Counseling Center may be able to help. To request a confidential session Contact Us.
