Drug abuse and addiction is not strictly a social problem and those who take drugs are not necessarily morally weak. Drug abuse can occur with either prescription medications or illegal drugs. While it is common to believe that drug abusers should be able to just stop taking drugs if they are only willing to change their behavior, what people often underestimate is the complexity of drug addiction. It is a disease that impacts the brain and because of that, stopping drug abuse is not simply a matter of willpower.

If you or someone you know is struggling with drug abuse, the Counseling Center can help. To request a confidential session Contact Us.
