People abuse substances such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco for varied and complicated reasons, but it is clear that our society and our families pay a significant cost. Substance abuse affects not only the individual using the substances, but also that person's entire family. Resolving substance abuse problems let alone the family issues that frequently contribute to and result from substance abuse is very difficult and generally requires outside help.
