Ted and Julie Moore Family Fund Sponsors Marblehead Counseling Center’s Swamp-Stock: Rock the Night!

MARBLEHEAD –Connecting with people they care deeply about, supporting things they’re passionate about, and giving back to their adopted Marblehead community have played a huge part in the philanthropic decision-making of the Ted and Julie Moore Family Fund since it began ten years ago. The Fund is a top-tier Harmony Sponsor of Marblehead Counseling Center’s (MCC), upcoming fall fundraiser Swamp-Stock: Rock the Night!, an evening of rock and roll to support mental health. The five hour bash will be held at the Swampscott Center for the Performing Arts from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Thursday, October 1st.

Ted started Glover Property Management in the 1970s at almost the same time as the 56 year old MCC. He and Julie “both have an interest in mental health in our community,” he says, and have previously supported its mission. But it was the relationship with MCC Board President Ruth Ferguson, whose son was childhood friends with the Moore’s two boys, as well as Julie’s long-time friendship with another event supporter, Jackie Polimeni, that paved the road for the couple’s sponsorship of Swamp-stock. “We haven’t really been that active with the Counseling Center before,” Julie says, “but I’m happy to do it. Ted and I had next to zero conversation about donating — it was just like, yes, of course! It’s such an important cause, and these people we know and respect are involved.”

Although not every cause the Moore’s support is centered in Marblehead, giving back to the town and programs that support the community is extremely important to them. Ted grew up in upstate New York, but his love of sailing and the opportunity to do some ‘frostbiting’ – sailing on the ocean in winter months – was what brought him to Marblehead originally. It didn’t take long before he was hooked. “The places I’ve lived in and my office are all within a mile of each other. So I never had to commute,” he says happily. “I could work in Marblehead and live in Marblehead.” Julie’s love affair with Marblehead has a lot to do with its beautiful location, too, but with an emphasis on its people. “It feels like home. I was raised in Ohio, but, you know, this, to me, is a community where I feel I fit in, and everybody is accessible. You’re not isolated at all.”

Ted notes that for many years, Glover Property Management has housed Marblehead AA and Anchor to Windward, a Marblehead non-profit that provides independent living and social networking services for adults with developmental disabilities, and Julie also served on the Anchor to Windward Board. They’ve helped support many of the town’s important community development fundraisers over the years, including the Abbot Library. The couple’s passion for the town spurred their donation of historic Gerry Island to the Trustees of Reservations in 2018, leading to the permanent preservation of the historic tidal island for all Marblehead to enjoy.  In 2025, the Fund gave a significant donation to renovate the Jeremiah Lee Brick Kitchen and Slave Quarters. The Moores credit their friendship with Amy Drinker, Honorary Director of the Marblehead Museum, with getting them involved in that project.

Julie explains that it’s hard to choose what to give to with so many worthy causes, but supporting a town that has made the pair welcome, and the causes of the people she trusts and cares about — “It’s a Ruth, it’s an Amy”  — helps the couple make their philanthropic decisions. “Most of the fundraising we support is done by local volunteers. They’re not getting paid to do it. So 100% of your gift goes directly to the cause, and that’s also important to us,” says Ted.

Friendships and community spirit aside, the couple’s donations also reflect their lifelong passions. For Ted, that often means sailing, and people or groups he knows from his time on the water. The Fund has supported the sailing team of his alma mater, Cornell, Friends of Buzzards Bay, as well as the Sailing Museum in Newport, Rhode Island, and the NY Yacht Club Performance Sailing Fund, which supports kids that are doing Olympic campaigns. Julie, a former producer at WGBH-TV, makes sure to contribute to help keep the public television station going.

The Moores say they are happy to be part of Swamp-Stock: Rock the Night! because it’s for a great cause and they are supporting their long-time friendships. But they’re also excited about the event, what it means for the community, and what Johnny Ray is bringing to the North Shore. “I’ve just started to get to know Johnny Ray,” Ted notes, “and I’m delighted to be involved in something that he’s involved with. You know, he has this great vision.”

Swamp-Stock: Rock the Night! is five hours of music and dancing at the brand new Swampscott Center for the Performing Arts (SCPA) on Thursday, October 1st from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Five bands will take the stage during the evening, including B-Side Hustle, Glass Harbor, Funbucket, The MERJ, and Lois Lane and the Daily Planets, with music ranging from soul to country, funk, R&B and classic rock. A light buffet is included in the ticket cost, and there will be a cash bar. In addition to the Ted and Julie Moore Family Fund, sponsors include a second Harmony Sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous, Spotlight Sponsors Jeff and Laurie Flowers, Ralph and Janice James, and Koiles Pratt Family Law, and Rising Star Sponsors that include Big Blue Bargains, DiMauro Landscaping, Helaine & James Hazlett, Metro Credit Union, Jackie Polimeni of Coldwell Banker Realty, Edgar & Maria Robertson, and Willis & Tierney, Compass Realty.
